About This Spot

Stepping into Toups Meatery feels like being invited into a warmly lit kitchen where the spirited soul of New Orleans quietly hums beneath the clatter of plates and soft conversations. Nestled along Carrollton Avenue, this spot offers an intimate, unhurried refuge where the pace encourages lingering — a space where sharing a meal becomes a moment to connect with friends old and new.

The atmosphere blends the familiar comfort of a neighborhood bistro with the bold, slightly unexpected flavors characteristic of Cajun and Southern cooking. There’s a genuine, approachable quality to the experience: the kind where attentive servers engage with a knowing ease, guiding you through dishes that pivot between rustic tradition and creative flair. Whether you’re seated indoors with its cozy, inviting décor or outside on the modest patio, the mood is quietly celebratory, punctuated by bursts of laughter and the occasional clink of glasses.

Mealtime here is a tactile experience — from the crispy, savory cracklins to rich, slow-braised meats that invite shared bites and appreciative nods across the table. It’s a place where textures and spice levels tell stories, where a plate of dirty rice or a tangy charcuterie board becomes more than just sustenance but a connection to the cultural tapestry of the region. Brunch carries a similar feeling of relaxed indulgence, encouraging guests to savor familiar Southern staples elevated with attention and care.

The wine list and cocktails quietly complement rather than dominate, hinting at the thoughtfulness poured into every detail. You feel that every element, from the spirited fried chicken sandwich to a beautifully arranged meatboard, has been curated not only to fill but to satisfy — both body and spirit. It’s the kind of setting where even simple acts like sharing a slice of bread or passing a bite of spicy turkey neck become moments threaded with warmth and thoughtfulness.

Toups Meatery invites you to slow down, to partake in a genuine culinary conversation deeply rooted in New Orleans’ culinary heritage, yet fresh and approachable. Amid its soulful dishes and humble elegance, you find yourself part of a quietly unfolding story — one that’s both timeless and intimate.

Enjoyed great brunch/lunch in New Orleans at Toups’ on Saturday. Got the marinated crab claws in chili vinaigrette with pickled pineapple - excellent. Cocktail “Something about Cherry” - cherry rye, pear shrub, apple cider - nice & seasonal. Dirty Rice is the real deal and meaty with balanced cajun spice. The Toups’ burger is a seriously superior creation of Chef Isaac of wagyu beef with wonderfully unique pickled squash, cheddar, bacon and creole aioli. This is a higher strata of burger class with each component able to be savored and married. We will be remembering this one and returning. Also really enjoyed opportunity to meet Chef Isaac and talk about the food. Looking forward to returning soon for dinner for the variety of cajun carnivory offerings.

Very delicious food. Our server suggested the turkey necks and the venison and both were flawless. We splitted in three and were super satisfied. The only thing that could improve was the bathroom, which wasn’t the cleanest Ive ever been.

Come with an empty belly or a lot of friends. The three bone porkchop was cooked and seasoned perfectly, but was enough for two or three people to share especially if you also order the meat platter appetizer. The cracklins were better than the rillons. We were there at 8PM on a Friday evening and were one of three tables. Our server (who may have been the owner ? ) gave off New York vibes; rushed, distracted, efficient.

Delicious food! We got takeout and omg! The Cuban sandwich was amazing - soft bread, flavorful meat, 10/10! The fried fish sandwich was perfectly fried with delicious tartar sauce. Pickle plate was so unique and a bit spicy. Particularly loved the green beans, onions, and beets. Finally, the broccoli Caesar was phenomenal. Some of the best dressing ever. Would go back for sure!

Can’t recommend this place enough. We shared a beautiful New Year’s Eve dinner on the patio. We ate several of the dishes that chef Toups is known for. Our service was impeccable and personable. The food was interesting and delicious. Truly a unique experience. The lamb neck was awesome. The cornbread as well. I have to say the desserts were my favorite part just because I’m a sweets person. But there wasn’t a weak spot. Loved all of it.

Started with the marinated crab claws and Irish coffees which were amazing! Different take with the marinated crab claws, not the typical butter spice. Very savory and pickled marinade. Awesome. Venison with fried eggs and biscuits/gravy and fried catfish served over perfect collard greens with two poached eggs cover with a tiny sauce that complimented the collard greens and fish perfectly! Don't skip this laid back, delicious eatery!

OMG! Amazing! I ordered the pork chop & my date ordered the steak. Best pork chop that I’ve ever had. The steak was perfect. One of our tour guides recommended Toups (thanks DJ) and I’m thankful that he did. Hadley was our server and she was amazing as well. Don’t take my word for it , experience it yourself!!!
